Having baby #2 is a total game changer. I absolutely love having my 2 boys and it's been quite the adventure navigating through each day with a feeding newborn and a rambunctious toddler. I honestly wouldn't have it any other way! I've quickly adapted to juggling them both, but really, I can't believe I ever thought having one was hard. HA. Just a different kind of hard I suppose. (Being a first time parent definitely is hard when you don't have a clue as to what you're doing....and I totally didn't.)
Now that we've found our footing between the 3 of us, I wanted to share with you my list of must-have items that have gotten us there. Being the only adult at home with 2, you're completely outnumbered... these products have made me feel a little more in control and remember, when in doubt, there's no shame in just pulling out the good ol' iPad.
Gear for Two
Solly Baby Wrap // Let me be real for a minute - I don't think I would get anything done (see: dishes, laundry, designing) without this wrap. Point blank, it's a life saver. It's super easy to use and unlike other wraps, it's not oodles of fabric to deal with. It's light weight, just the right size and I can throw it in a bag without any hassle. Hudson seems to really enjoy it, too.
4Moms Rockaroo // I love the streamlined modern foot-print of the Rockaroo. It's low to the ground which makes Aden super excited to be able to sit and watch his brother swing, but it also has an option to plug in your iPod, which is perfect for Rockabye Lullabies of Bob Marley for our little guy. Beats the heck out of the standard white noise options. Add this to my list of options to free your hands ... see where I'm headed with this?
Munchkin Snack Catcher // The best little item to have in your arsenal for toddler wrangling. I fill this baby up with cheerios in the AM for Aden to enjoy with his milk while watching Mickey's Clubhouse and wah-la! I just bought myself another half an hour to drink my coffee hot before the morning routine begins. I love that these snack catchers really live up to their name...and a toddler throw across the room.
Kismet Love Collection Nursing Cover // When nursing Aden, I was the typical anxious first-time mom. I would never go out in public when I knew he was due to eat. Fast forward to life with two and nothing stops this mama from going out into civilization. This nursing cover has been my lifeline in so many ways. It's super soft, comfortable, and wraps into a little ball to throw in my bag. Now, when it's time for Hudson to eat, it doesn't matter where I am, I can do it comfortably while continuing on with the other activity. Time is precious these days and this saves me from missing out on the family fun.
The Ollie Swaddle by Ollieworld // I can't stress enough how much I love this swaddle. With Aden, he busted out of every swaddle we put him in. Needless to say, we gave up on the swaddling pretty early on and resorted to sleep-sacks. I account Aden's poor sleep habits as a newborn to the fact that we abandoned swaddling so when Hudson came along I was not going down that road again. I heard so many good things about the Ollie Swaddle on Instagram and prayed to Jesus that we'd have just as good of luck that everyone else had with it. The Ollie was a must in my hospital bag and we started using it immediately. Hudson has his "days", but for the most part he's a dream sleeper. I'm talking naps that last 2-2.5 hours and 5-6 hour stretches at night from the get-go. If that's not a testimony in itself to how good the Ollie works.... It's definitely a must have.
I hope you find these items helpful and hopefully they offer up another hand - let's face it, you need all you can get - but, if I can share with you one last thing I've learned it is to just embrace the chaos. Sometimes you wake up and you'll have it all together and most days you're just one nap protest away from an early happy hour. Either way, it all goes by way too fast.
